Mole Mapping

Early cancer diagnosis makes treatment easier and saves lives.

Digital mole mapping is a safe, non-invasive way to detect skin cancer. We use a specialist photo system to map the moles on a person’s entire body in a standardised manner. The standardised photographs allow safe monitoring so that changing or new moles can be identified. We use a digital mole mapping system called FotoFinder.

Why FotoFinder mole mapping?

Two thirds of all melanoma develop on healthy skin and not from existing moles. It can be difficult to detect early cancers without standardised photographic monitoring. Consultant Dermatologists increasingly regard automated mole mapping as an essential component in good dermatology practice.

Brampton Medical started FotoFinder Mole Mapping when Royal Stoke University Hospital withdrew the NHS service in 2022 (due to nurse staffing shortage). Mole mapping is no longer available in our local NHS. Brampton Medical provides the only local scanner based mole mapping service.
Mole mapping is important for high risk individuals including all who have had a previous skin cancer, because a history of skin cancer greatly increases the risk for a second skin cancer.
Skin melanoma is far easier to treat if caught early. Mole mapping is very useful for at risk individuals.

Not all Mole Mapping is the same!

We use FotoFinder (4th Generation) scanner that generates standardised photographs that can be analysed by AI as well as by Consultant review.  Trial evidence has shown that at repeat mole mapping Artificial Intelligence (AI) is key for detecting early fresh changes.

Am I a high risk patient?

If you can answer “YES” to any of these questions please contact us

  • Do you have fair skin that is sensitive to sunlight?
  • Do you have a particularly large number of moles?
  • Do you have large congenital naevi (birth moles)?
  • Do you have an atypical mole or moles that have recently changed?
  • Did you get sunburn as a child or adolescent?
  • Is there a history of skin cancer in your family?
  • Have you already had skin cancer?
  • Are you exposed to strong sunlight or UV rays at regular intervals?

NB. VERY IMPORTANT

If your concern is an individual worrying or troublesome skin lesion book direct with one of our Consultant Dermatologists.

Mole Mapping – what happens on the day?

When you attend for your Mole Mapping you will undergo digital scanning operated by one of our senior nurse practitioners. Suspicious moles, including those highlighted by AI will have additional video microscopy (‘dermoscopy’) by the nurse practitioner.

The captured images are then definitively graded by one of our Consultant Dermatologists. The patient will then receive a written report after a few days together with a care plan.

Booking

Brampton Medical will always try to price match for any comparable service.

However, for mole mapping there is no local competitor. Local clinics that offer ‘mole mapping’ use a dermatologist with a hand held camera or mobile phone, and this approach does not compare with FotoFinder which generates the standardised photographs that allow safe follow up.

Our price at £330 first visit and £290 for review is competitive with other national FotoFinder clinics.

Special Discount - Two Together

If two people book for their appointments on the same day and make a prior payment (not on the day) there will be a £50 discount for each person.

‘Two together’ is efficient for our clinic, less daunting for you and attending can be fun ….. almost!
